Here is the grand finale of our therapist interview series – our owner – Dr Veronica Johnson!
Steve and Veronica founded Envision Counseling Clinic in 2015 and have poured their faith, their values, their mission and their expertise into every inch of it. Currently, Envision has three offices, fourteen therapists and a team of two in admin. The last decade has been a decade of growth, blessing and learning to be flexible. Owning your own business in today’s marketplace is not for the faint of heart! Envision has proudly helped thousands of clients to not only ENVISION a better life, but to live out that truth.
When asked why Veronica chose to be a therapist, her answer was being a bible camp counselor and watching the ebb and flow of her parent’s marriage along with the fruit that came from their counseling. Veronica and Steve met in college and the rest is history – a very colorful history. They. Eloped. Not just eloped, but at a Vegas drive-thru! And in secret no less – it took them a while to tell their families. Oh, the movie plot of it all! A cross-country move to Virginia in a little green Subaru for her doctorate and then a cross-country move back to Colorado (in the same car but now with 3 carseats), all is well that ends well. They happily reside in Castle Rock with their three kiddos – two daughters and a son – all going a mile a minute.
Veronica sees her role as a therapist as being a professional, positive manipulator. Her favorite part of her job is watching the trajectory of a marriage change. She is also a self-proclaimed amateur comedian – that part is free folks! Veronica is a firm believer that laughing is the best mental health medicine – it is even a requirement for the people that she and Steve hire into the company. To work at Envision you must be a Christian, and mean it, and you need to enjoy laughing everyday. Her other criteria? Be kinda weird….just not too weird. This is where I come in folks – the newsletter writer – I was drawn to the place I could truly be myself – Jesus lover, joke maker and enjoyer, and just the right amount of weird.
What Steve and Veronica have built is an exceptional atmosphere for clients and for the people who work here.
Now the details that make Veronica, um, Veronica! What gets Veronica out of bed in the morning? “Anxiety and the ever-nagging to-do list.” What would she be if not a therapist? Well, we started with philosopher but then quickly shifted to an owner of a Chicago hot dog joint. Not to be without dogs + fries + pizza puffs. (Oh My!) Personal mantra? “Less is more.” Favorite guilty pleasures? Watching Dry Bar Comedy and eating cheese curds. The Johnson family loves to eat good food – comfort or fancy – and Veronica personally likes to have options and variety at every bite…I mean meal. The Johnson family is also enjoying spending time with their FIRST dog ever – Leo, the rescue mutt. Dr Veronica’s favorite line from a movie? Of notable value, it’s food related.
